Email verification
What is email verification?
Email verification (or validation) checks an address before you email it: whether it is well-formed, whether the domain accepts mail, whether the mailbox appears to exist, and whether it is disposable or a role address. Some servers accept every address ("catch-all"), so results are sometimes uncertain.
It is a standard step after an email finder and before any outreach campaign.
Why email verification matters
Sending to addresses that do not exist raises your bounce rate, which mailbox providers read as a sign of a poor list and can push your emails to spam.
Related marketing terms
Email bounce rate is the share of sent emails that could not be delivered, because the address is invalid or the receiving server refused them.
An email finder is a tool that looks up a business email address for a person or company, from public sources and known address patterns.
Email deliverability is how reliably your emails reach the inbox rather than spam, shaped by authentication, reputation and content.
Spam traps are email addresses used to catch senders with poor list practices. Hitting them can damage your domain’s sending reputation.
