KOL (key opinion leader)
What is a KOL?
A KOL, or key opinion leader, is someone trusted for their expertise in a field: a doctor in healthcare, an engineer in developer tools, an analyst in finance. The term is common in pharma, B2B and Asian markets, where it is often used instead of "influencer".
A KOL’s influence comes from credibility more than audience size. Some have large followings; others are known mainly inside their profession.
Why a KOL matters
In technical and B2B markets, buyers listen to recognised experts. A recommendation from one respected practitioner can matter more than many generic posts.
